My Teaching Method
Many students find my lessons an unexpected way to unwind at the end of a long day. Lessons are flexible, tailored to your skill-level, and designed to get you talking and thinking in Dutch. What feels like a lively conversation will effectively enhance your Dutch speaking, reading and comprehension quickly.
The Assessment
During the first free 30-minute lesson I will ask you questions to get an idea of your current level of Dutch. We will talk about your goals and whether you’d like to use a book or follow a flexible curriculum. You will get an idea of my teaching style and together we can create a customized learning plan.
The curriculum
Generally my students prefer to follow a flexible approach deciding which topics to focus on as we go. However we can also follow a textbook or train for an inburgering exam.
During each lesson I create notes of vocabulary and Dutch grammar concepts introduced in the lesson, along with answers to questions that come up. These notes serve as personalized study materials. I’ve found this method to be the most effective in helping students reach their goal of conversational fluency in Dutch. I also like to offer reading and translation assignments which are based on your personal interests, to boost your reading and writing skills.
Lesson Frequency
Lesson duration and frequency will depend on your schedule, goals and learning style. The standard is 1 hour per week, however 2 hours per week is recommended for those with upcoming exam dates or those who wish to develop a high level of fluency quickly.
Homework
Study time between lessons is encouraged but not required. Following each lesson, I will send you lesson notes and a list of vocabulary you are learning, which it helps to review before our next lessons. If you have additional study time, I will provide you with reading and translation assignments to enhance your reading and writing fluency.
“Lessons are relaxed but expect a challenge.”
He's a great teacher - very knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Lessons usually consist of conversation followed by some exercises or a grammar lesson. He knows the things you need to work on and tailors the lesson to your level. The lessons are relaxed but expect a challenge because he will definitely push you to improve!
